About the Author

Dr. Cynthia Addae was born and raised in Ghana, West Africa. She is a mother, author, and Professor of Biology at Broward College since 2013. Dr. Addae received her Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Biological Sciences from Alcorn State University. She earned her Ph.D. in Environmental Toxicology from Southern University and A&M College.

Prior to becoming a college professor, Dr. Addae worked as a teaching assistant and a tutor in math and biology. She also gained practical experience in early childhood education while working at the Alcorn State University Child Development Learning Center.

As an educator, Dr. Addae constantly strives to learn, grow, and use her skills to improve students’ lives – especially those with distinct needs. She believes that EVERY child can achieve their dreams if they work hard. Dr. Addae wrote Abena’s Big Dream to raise awareness about stuttering and to show children, parents, guardians, and teachers ways to assist and encourage young people who stutter. She is also an advocate for public efforts to provide support and empowerment to all people who stutter.

 When she is not teaching, Dr. Addae loves to cook, read, listen to gospel music, and spend time with her family. She lives in Davie, Florida with her husband and their two children.
